Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre Information
The Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre is an open-air music venue nestled in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Recent chart-toppers including Benson Boone and The Kid LAROI have performed at the venue. It is also a popular tour stop for country acts like Weird Al, Warren Zeider’s Relapse Tour, and Sturgill Simpson Presents.
Described as “Queen City’s home of music”, the amphitheater holds most of its concerts from April to October, while in the winter months, the indoor Fillmore Charlotte venue is the place to catch live music.
The venue is not covered, so it is a great place to enjoy vibrant events on warm summer days, with impressive views of the city skyline when the sun goes down. With a choice between comfortable reserved seating or general admission into the elevated lawn area, concertgoers can choose their preferred way to enjoy a performance.
The history of Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre
The Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre first opened its doors in 2009, when it was named the Uptown Amphitheatre. The venue was developed by the ARK Group, with the vision of creating a complex similar to New York City’s SoHo. The amphitheater was developed as part of the AvidXchange Music Factory, costing around $52 million to build.
After originally being called the Uptown Amphitheatre due to its location, previous sponsorships have seen the venue renamed to the Road Runner Mobile Amphitheatre and then the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre. From 2022, Skyla Credit Union took over the naming rights.
When it opened, many of the acts who had previously played at the Palladium at Carowinds moved to the new venue. The first concert at the Uptown Amphitheatre featured performances from The Fray, Jack’s Mannequin, and Richard Swift. Since then, it has had a busy calendar of world-renowned music artists taking to the stage.
